Sochi 2014: Canadian Olympic Uniforms Unveiled
The Canadian uniforms for the 2014 Olympics are unveiled on Wednesday October 30. There are a hundred days to go before the Sochi Winter Games start on February 7, 2014.
The Hudson's Bay Company, the official outfitter for the Canadian Olympic team, disclosed the fresh new designs. Several Olympians were present at the Toronto press conference to help the company unveil the uniforms which feature pictures of a polar bear, a loon and a beaver. The word 'Canada' is also featured in a vintage style in the uniform.
These uniforms will be used while the team will attend the inauguration as well as the closing ceremony which is going to be held in the Olympic village. The Olympians will also wear it whenever they win a medal for their country.
Bonnie Brooks, the CEO and president of The Hudson's Bay, informed that the Canadian uniforms had been manufactured in the country. On the other hand, the replica uniforms for consumers are presently being manufactured somewhere else. He said that the majority of those replicas are manufactured in China. Mr Brooks added and acknowledged the fact that there had been additional scrutiny on garment factories' quality practices all over the world. The Hudson's Bay has a strict obligation to their customers worldwide and the social compliance policy of the company is also extremely stern, he remarked. He made the comments in relation to the federal government's concerns before the 2008 Beijing Olympics, after they discovered that majority of the Olympic apparel was manufactured in China instead of Canada.
Nevertheless, the Olympians have expressed their satisfaction with the uniforms which consists of down jackets, knit tuques and sweater as well as colourful T-shirts. According to Billy Bridges, sledge hockey player from Prince Edward ISland, Canada is going to be one of the 'best-looking countries' at the Olympics in 2014. He said that the Olympians feel proud to wear the uniforms. The feeling of pride is going to stay when they will play in Sochi, he said.
