Software Only today released Roxio Retrospect 8.2 for Mac, a key update to the backup and recovery software that allows small and midsize businesses to protect critical data stored on Mac, Windows, and Linux servers, desktops and notebooks.

Distributed in Australia by Software Only, Retrospect 8.2 is the first release since Roxio's takeover of the product line in May. It delivers up to three times faster network backup performance, adds 64-bit addressing to enable the backup of volumes containing tens of millions of files, and includes user interface enhancements that simplify workflow and management tasks.

According to Software Only, a major enhancement in Retrospect 8.2 is the ability to restore from backups created with Retrospect 6, addressing a key request from users who wanted to perform restores using Retrospect 8 from older archives created in Retrospect 6.

Software Only director Andrew Paton said Retrospect 8.2 was a significant product update that delivered important user benefits.

"Retrospect 8.2 provides users of previous versions with a very clear and straightforward upgrade path to the vastly superior architecture and performance of version 8," he said.

"With more than two decades of proven performance, millions of users worldwide and a price that's a fraction of other solutions, Retrospect 8.2 is ideal for individuals and businesses looking to quickly and efficiently protect critical data."
