‘Sons of Anarchy’ Series Finale: Swan Song ‘Come Join The Murder’ Tops Billboard’s Hot Rock [VIDEO]
With fans still reeling from the show's bloody ending, "Sons of Anarchy" series creator Kurt Sutter is exhausting everything from online auctions to SOA book for fans who wants to own a little bit of something from the show. SOA soundtrack is also up for grab including the "epic seven-minute song" from the "Sons of Anarchy" series finale, entitled "Come Join the Murder."
Performed by SOA house band The Forest Rangers with White Buffalo (singer/songwriter Jake Smith), the song was written by Sutter specifically for Season 7's "Papa's Goods." Now on its way to the top of the charts, "Come Join the Murder" debuted at number nine on Billboard's Hot Rock chart and claimed the 93 spot on the Hot 100 chart.
Smith described the song as "conflicted, disturbing, and beautiful, much like the show itself" and was honoured to work with Sutter and Forest Ranger's leader Bob Thiele Jr. During his recent interview, Thiele described the challenge of writing the song as "bittersweet."
"We know what's gonna happen and sad as it is, there is a triumphant surrender that Jax embraces in his final moments," Thiele revealed on his interview with Rolling Stone as he struggles not to anchor the song in melancholy. "Rather than stay in the minor key of the verse, I chose to frame the chorus in a major key which underscores Jax's decision to chose his own final destiny."
The swan song is now available in the SOA compilation album, "Sons of Anarchy, Volume 4," and it is scheduled to be released in late February. The album also features Ed Sheeran's cover of Foy Vance's "Make it Rain" which was featured on the penultimate episode, "Red Rose." After its Dec. 2 premiere, "Make it Rain" debuted at number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Artists who contributed to the album include SOA lead star Katey Sagal ("Greensleeves"), Joshua James ("The Age of Aquarius/ Let the Sun Shine In"), Audra Mae ("Never My Love"), Franky Perez ("Baby, Please Don't Go"), Billy Valentine ("Blue Angel") and Amos Lee ("Boots of Spanish Leather"). Most songs in the "Sons of Anarchy" soundtrack are performed in collaboration with SOA house band. Check out "Come Join the Murder" music video courtesy of Mike Valenzuela.
