‘Sons of Anarchy’ spin-off release date, news & update: ‘Mayans MC’ timeframe teased by ‘Redwood Original’; Emilio Rivera shocks fans
The “Sons of Anarchy” spin-off series is expected to debut in Fall 2017. The spin-off, named “Mayans MC,” is already creating immense buzz with series creator Kurt Sutter producing the series and Elgin James running the show.
Reports suggest that Emilio Rivera has confirmed his involvement with the “Sons of Anarchy” project. Rivera played president of “Mayans MC” in the original series. This time, “Mayans MC” will focus on the Latino motorcycle club and how its members juggle family and business, writes POP CULTURE.
However, Rivera’s involvement may have proved wrong initial rumours of “Sons of Anarchy” taking place during Jax Teller’s childhood. This would require Rivera’s character Alvarez to be 25-30 years younger. Thus, the prequel rumours may have been false.
Therefore, fans now believe that “Mayans MC” would start where “Sons of Anarchy” ended. There is another theory making rounds and that is the “Mayans MC” would take place the same time “Sons of Anarchy” happened. However, that would require involvement of numerous star members from the original series.
The comic from Boom! Studios, “Sons Of Anarchy: Redwood Original,” written by Ollie Masters and illustrated by Luca Pizzari, has teased a possible time frame for “Mayans MC” in their latest issue. If “Mayans MC” takes place when Jax is about 18, that would be 10 years before the events of the original series.
In that case, Rivera may portray Alvarez without any issue. However, that would also mean Jax Teller will have to make an appearance in “Mayans MC.” The rebellious, flashy teenager will clash with his step-father, who is also the club’s president. Bad news is Charlie Hunnam cannot portray an 18-year-old Jax.
Moreover, to everybody’s utter disbelief, Rivera tweeted that he is not even sure whether he is on “Mayans MC.” This has shocked fans to the core as Rivera was a key character in the original “Sons of Anarchy” show.
