Sony recently launched its Sony VAIO Pro 11 and Pro 13 models in hopes of challenging Apple in high-end portable computing. The new line of ultrabook computers will go against Apple's line of Macbook . Can Sony give Apple a run for its money?

The company announced that the new Pro models are the "lightest" in the world. The 11-inch model weight just around 870g whereas the 13-inch version is just 1.06kg. The latest Ultrabooks from Sony are 0.68-inches thick.

The Pro Models can go head to head against Apple's Macbook line not just because Sony says so - they have the stats to back them up. Sony's newest Vaio is lighter than MacBook Air - Apple's laptops weigh 1.08kg for the 11-inch screen and 1.34kg for the 13-inch respectively. Nonetheless, being the "lightest" may have its downside as some feel the airy-weight comes with less-than-solid build quality.

David Pierce, from the The Verge, says Pro Models feel like they are "flimsy and breakable". The keyboards appear mushy. Users may have to flex a little more to type correctly. Despite some unfavorable reviews, Sony Vaio Pro models have pleasing technical stats.

The company seeks to provide PC level experience in a small package. Both ultrabooks have 1920x1080 touchscreen - much like all Intel branded Ultrabooks running on Windows 8. They also have the newest Haswell chips by Intel. The 11 Pro features 1.6GHz Core i5 while the 13 runs on 1.8GHz Core i7. Both Ultrabooks have 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

Users have the choice if they want up to 256GB SSD in the 11 and 512GB SSD in the 13. Sony has yet to improve on the battery life of the Pro Models as there were no special or exceptional features for battery life.
