Sony unveiled its Android phablet in India, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, fetching a handsome Rs 46,990.

The smartphone was slated for release in India on August 2.

Sony's current version of the model was a great phone, but Sony wanted to make it even better.

In India, the phone can be bought online from websites lkke Flipkart, Saholic and Infibeam for approximately Rs 45,000.

The new Experia comes with a 6.4-inch screen and is waterproof, one of the signatures of Sony smartphones.

The launch of the Z Ultra combines with a Vodafone plan up to 8 GB for 2 months.

Other specs in the high-end Sony model include these features:

• Waterproof and dust-resistant (IP55/IP58) body

• Processor - Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 combined with with quad-core 2.2 GHz CPUs

• Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC, 4G LTE, connectivity options

• Xperia Z Ultra is outfitted with writing and sketching functions. Any pencil and pen or stylus - a metal pen or capacitive stylus - may be used. The pen needs to have a tip that is larger than 1 mm

• Equipped with 16 GB storage plus a micro SD slot and 2 GB RAM

• Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system

• Z Ultra has a rear camera that is 8-megapixel and one in the front that is 2 megapixel. Videorecording may be taken at 1080p.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3-inch phone has just about the same screen size with a significantly lower price tag of Rs 31,490.

But, the deciding factor for consumers will be Galaxy Mega's dual-core processor along with 8 GB memory on the phone itself. Mega has a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, considerably lower than that of the Z Ultra.
