Sony Pictures has bought the the rights to distribute Morgan Spurlock’s newest meta-documentary, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.

The documentary tackles the issue of product placement, branding and advertising in the entertainment business and how this affects consumer decision. The company has been pursuing the film for distribution even prior to its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. It will be released by Sony Pictures Classics in the United States by April.

The film was directed and written by Morgan Spurlock of the Super Size Me documentary fame. The script was written along with Jeremy Chilnick. Spurlock is also a producer with Chilnick and Abbie Hurewitz via the production company, Warrior Poets, in addition to support from Snoot Entertainment producers Keith Calder and Jessica Wu.

"We are thrilled to continue Sony's longstanding relationship with Morgan. He has made an extremely creative and original movie which we think audiences will really embrace," says Steve Bersch, President, SPWA.
