Sony PS4, PS4 Pro & others topple Nintendo & Xbox One with record 50 million sales; 10 Android/iOS games being developed
The Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) is undoubtedly the top-selling gaming console all around the world with the company recording 50 million units sold since its launch in November 2013. The PS4 consoles are confidently ahead of its competitors, Microsoft Xbox One (30 million units sold approx) and Nintendo Wii U (13 million units sold approx).
Between May 2016 and Dec. 6 2016, Sony has sold 10 million PS4 units and one-fifth of its total buyers are new owners. It’s like one million units sold every month, making PS4 as the fastest selling console in the world. Since its launch, the PS4 has mostly dominated the console market in terms of sales, reports Business Insider.
Nintendo last reported its sales figures in March 2016 and it was just under 13 million. Wii U has not sold as expected even after being in the game for a full year longer than PS4. Now, Nintendo is trying to correct its wrongs by launching the Nintendo Switch in March 2017. Microsoft, instead of providing Xbox One sales number, focuses on usage and how many hours gamers spend time on it.
Back in January 2016, EA, during an investor call, gave an approximate sales number. It was just near the 20 million mark. Sony is not in the mood to relax with it releasing the PS4 Slim in September and the PS4 Pro in November. This only shows that more and more gamers are putting their faith in Sony. PS4 currently costs US$299 (AU$399) and the PS4 Pro costs US$399 (AU$530).
PlayStation is also reportedly bringing 10 games to Android and iOS, a move very similar to that of Nintendo’s. Six of them will be launched in the coming fiscal year. As per Reuters, PS4 is bringing the lesser known games, unlike Nintendo. Before going worldwide, Sony will be first launching the games on iPhone and Android in Japan and other parts of Asia. Sony is looking to sell the games sometime after April 2017.
“PaRappa the Rapper” and “Arc the Lad” have been confirmed.
