A new certified official update from Sony will be released on June 16 to Xperia S, consisting of major fixes, system performance boost, Google Now and Project Butter.

Sony certified the new Android 4.1.2 firmware update for the Xperia S with build number 6.2.B.0.211. According to the Xperia Blog, Sony approved the update on June 4 and scheduled it to be released by week 23 or 24 which coincides within June 3 and June 16.

"Sony Mobile will soon rollout new Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware to Xperia S LT26i owners. Firmware version 6.2.B.0.211 was certified earlier today by the PTCRB and will mainly bring bug fixes over the previous version 6.2.B.0.200. Sony has confirmed that the update will land during week 23-24 (so we should see it released by week commencing 10 June)," according to Xperiablog.net

Recently, the 6.2.A.0.200 build was released by Sony for Xperia S carrying Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and which was reported to suffer some major bugs such as Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity malfunction.

Bug fixes would be the primary content of the new update, but the following features below will still remain:

  • Google Now - Intelligent mobile search engine from Google
  • Project Butter - Fluid and smooth interface
  • New experience for WALKMAN, the Album and the Movies applications
  • Improved lock screen functionality
  • Resizable widgets and improved personalisation
  • Control of mobile data consumption improved
  • Clear of overview of your apps on 'Recent Apps' button

The upcoming update will roll out gradually and owners of the Xperia S are encouraged to use the Sony PC Companion, Update Service or Bridge for Mac to check for the software update from to time.
