Sony Mobile is rolling out a new firmware update for Xperia SP which still runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Unfortunately, its Android 4.4.2 KitKat update remains unknown and there are no records at PTCRB or news from the company.

Sony Xperia SP New Android Jelly Bean

Sony Mobile is rolling out a new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for Xperia SP having the firmware build version 12.1.A.1.207 that will move the device from 12.1.A.1.205 build version. According to reports from XperiaBlog, users that reported to them found no noticeable changes on the said firmware update and simply a "bug-fixing release."

In addition, 12.1.A.1.207 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware is currently seeding among T-Mobile networks in continental Europe and Orange France. It is expected to rollout in the coming days among the rest of Xperia SP users worldwide.

PTCRB Firmware Status

Based on the list of available firmware for Sony Xperia SP at PTCRB, it is confirmed that 12.1.A.1.207 has been approved in July 14 and compatible for Xperia SP C502, C5303 and C5306 models.

Sony Mobile Official Status

Sony Xperia SP official software status at the support page of Sony Mobile is still on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean 12.1.A.1.205 firmware while the future upgrade plan is still under investigation. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is the initial firmware build of the smartphone which has been updated to Android 4.3 since February of 2014.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat would be its second major firmware update if Sony approves the development as quoted by "under investigation" on the software status. The company has not yet released any official statement about it and Xperia SP was not included on the Android KitKat upgrade plans.
