Sony Xperia Tablet Z is now receiving updates of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean version to owners of SGP321 variant. LTE owners of the Xperia Tablet Z will get firmware version 10.3.1.A.0.244 which is the same with Sony Xperia Z, ZL and ZR.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z SGP321 4G LTE variant is currently receiving an official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update from Sony. The new firmware build version is also the same used in Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia ZR running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

XperiaBlog attempted to update the Wi-Fi variant - SGH311 and SGP312 - of the Xperia Tablet Z but both models didn't pick up any software upgrades. As of now, the update is only available via Sony PC Companion software.

Sony did change some elements in the user interface of the Xperia Tablet Z including the notifications bar which is now located at the top of the screen and the three virtual buttons found at the bottom of the screen has been centred.

A pull-quick settings feature is also included which is commonly found in Xperia smartphones. However, the Small Apps and IR Remote software is nowhere to be found yet.

Using the Sony PC Companion

If you haven't updated your Sony Tablet Z SGP321 variant, here are the steps how to use the Sony PC Companion.

1. Go to the SonyMobile Web site using a browser on your computer.

2. Browse below and click on Computer Software section.

3. Then download the PC Companion for Windows or Sony Bridge for Mac on your computer.

4. Install the executable file of PC Companion or Sony Bridge which you have downloaded.

5. If the software didn't launch after installation, launch it manually on your computer.

6. Connect your Sony Xperia Z Tablet to allow drivers installation.

7. A prompt should appear, notifying a new software update available for your Xperia tablet.

8. Follow the instructions provided to you by the PC Companion or Sony Bridge such as backup and syncing before updating the device.

9. Make sure that the device has at least 50 per cent battery life

10. An Internet connection is required to download the firmware and do not disconnect the Xperia Tablet Z during installation to avoid corrupting the software.
