PTCRB certified another firmware build for the Sony Xperia Z Ultra which may include Sony's X-Reality Mobile engine to the device scheduled on early September.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra New Firmware Update

The firmware version 14.1.B.1.493 has been certified by the PTCRB Web site for Sony Xperia Z Ultra C6802 HSPA+ model that currently runs build 14.1.B.0.471 which rolled out recently. One of the features included in the upcoming firmware update is the possibility of X-Reality for mobile engine from Sony.

Sony said that X-Reality for mobile update is due to arrive in early September 2013 which now being rumoured included to the upcoming build. The firmware version has been certified by PTCRB on August 6, 2013.

Sony X-Reality Engine for Mobile Devices

X-Reality is Sony's advanced image processing engine analyses each scene to give optimum colour and contrast. The engine processes even low-resolution videos to give clean, clear and lifelike pictures.

1. Unique noise reduction - Reduces mosquito noise which appears at high-contrast scene edges.

2. Adaptive random noise reduction - Cleans up mottling caused by limitations in the camera's low-light performance.

3. Adaptive Dot noise reduction - Addresses the dot crawl that is characteristics of old "composite" video seen in close-up.

Combination of TRILUMINOS display with X-Reality Engine for mobile

1. Pixel reproduction - Super resolution technology which reproduces lacking pixels.

2. Texture and outline improvement - Selective enhancement of elements to render texture and sharpen outlines for clearer and crisper images.

3. Colour and contrast enhancement - Reproduces vividness of image in its original colour.

4. Noise reduction - Decreases noise which can occur in high-motion scenes or footage shot in low-light conditions.

X-Reality display engine is exclusively found in Sony BRAVIA HD LED & LCD television units and Sony Xperia Z Ultra would be the first Android device to feature it.
