Huawei, the Chinese device manufacturer, created the Huawei Ascend Mate as a competitor in the phablet market competition. The Huawei Ascend Mate is expected to vie against other rival phablets like the Sony Xperia Z Ultra which is the Japanese company's first venture in the phone-tablet type.

The Huawei Ascend Mate has a compact design with its plastic body and metallic sides. The phablet shows off a 6.1-inch IPS + LCD screen display with 1280x720p HD resolution protected with the Corning Gorilla Glass technology.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra tramples the Huawei phablet with its bigger screen size of 6.44 inches Triluminous Full HD display but the Ascend Mate can still compete with its brightness, contrast, sharpness and lively colours when viewing high quality images, video or even playing games.

Huawei incorporated the K3V2 quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz in the Ascend Mate. The device is packed with the 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage capacity that can be expanded up to 32GB through the microSD card slot, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, the power of a 4050mAh Li-ion battery and the connectivity support for 2G or 3G network, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB, direct or hotspot Wi-Fi and GPS.

For capturing images or videos, Huawei Ascend Mate has an 8MP rear-facing camera with the autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, HDR and Panorama features. The phablet has the ability as well to capture Full HD videos at 30fps.

The 6.44-inch Sony Xperia Z Ultra is a competitive phablet with the remarkable features, specs and technology integrated in the device such as the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system. Sony's selling point on their device is the IP58 certification for dust and water resistance and the ability to survive when submerged into the water with a depth of up to 1 meter.
