Sony Xperia Z vs. Sony Xperia ZR: A Comparison on the Xperia Smart Phone Range
Sony recently confirmed the addition of a new and sophisticated smart phone called Sony Xperia ZR. How exactly does the waterproof Sony Xperia ZR differ from the existing Sony Xperia Z smart phone?
The main factor is the additional water resistance on the Sony Xperia ZR with the IP55 and IP58 compliance against the Sony Xperia Z's IPX5/7 grading. It means that the Sony Xperia Z is only water resistant while the Sony Xperia ZR can survive underwater up to 5 feet for 30 minutes for capturing images or videos.
Sony assured the device enthusiasts that the Xperia ZR ports are all firmly secured, the smart phone is also dustproof and shatterproof with a scratch-resistant glass. A "Battery Stamina" technology is included in the Xperia ZR as well that allows up to 4x of battery conservation with the automatic shutdown of battery-consuming applications.
"The Xperia ZR pushes the boundaries on where and how consumers can use the full potential of their smart phone. By combining Sony's leading camera technology with the highest level of water-resistance, you will never miss another moment. The Xperia ZR delivers the unique smart phone experience that people can expect from Sony," Calum MacDougall, Director of the Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications, declared in a released statement.
Furthermore, Sony revealed that the Xperia ZR smart phone will be offered in the available color choices of black, white, pink and mint with its launch scheduled on the second quarter of 2013. However, the company has not yet confirmed the new smart phone's price and which countries will get hold of the impressive waterproof device.
During the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show, Sony unveiled the 5-inch Xperia Z smart phone with 1080 p screen display resolution. The Sony Xperia ZR is a 4G smart phone that features a 4.6-inch HD screen display with 1280x720p resolution and a 13MP front-facing camera with 16x digital zoom.
Sony Xperia ZR runs on the 1.5-GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB of RAM and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Xperia ZR has an internal storage capacity of 8GB against the 16GB storage in the Xperia Z but both can have storage expansion up to 32GB with the microSD card slot.
The other Sony Xperia ZR features include the NFC support, the new Stereo Bluetooth Headset SBH50, the "Faces" feature that recognizes the faces in the images album for tagging or sharing purposes and the apps called "Walkman," "Album" and "Movies" that provides the Xperia ZR owners a quick access with images, music and video.
