Sony Xperia Z2 15 Steps On How to Improve Overall Battery Life and Power Bug Workarounds
Sony Xperia Z2 is a high-end smartphone with 4K video recording, new IPS display and quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor which may drain the battery quickly. So here are some tricks to extend battery life and important power conservation notes from Sony Mobile.
Basic Power Management Tips
1. Use the pre-installed power manager from Sony called STAMINA mode to extend battery life whenever the device is in idle mode. Go to Settings > Power Management > Enable STAMINA mode.
2. Explore the STAMINA mode options for further conditions to conserve power. You can use the Low-Battery mode, Location-based Settings and the new option to set data syncing in intervals if you use mobile data connection often.
3. Set the display configuration to specific levels to reduce power consumption of the screen. Modify the brightness level or set it to auto-mode and minimise the screen time-out to 30 seconds or a minute.
4. Simplify the home screen using two methods. Go to Settings > Home > Simple Home to reduce the complexity of the Xperia Home UI. Another way is to minimise the use of several home screen panes and widgets to help save power. Use only the icons, widgets and shortcuts that are useful every day.
5. Display engines such as Triluminos, X-Reality and BRAVIA 2 can consume power as they improve colour accuracy and reproduction. If you are not that too meticulous with videos, turn them off in the Settings menu.
Advanced Power Saving
1. Uninstall apps you don't use anymore. Go to Settings > Applications > Select the app you want to remove.
2. Use static wallpaper instead of live wallpapers to further reduce battery consumption of the display screen.
3. Disable some apps from Google or Sony which you don't need at all. Go to Settings > Applications > All > Uninstall Updates > Disable. A new tab will appear which lists all disabled apps.
4. Turn off wireless connection when not in use such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and mobile data. Use Wi-Fi if available instead of mobile data connection when browsing online.
5. Set the network mode to 2G instead of 3G or 4G to reduce battery consumption of the antennae. Go to Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > WCDMA/GSM. This is recommended for those who rarely use mobile data connection.
Sony Mobile Notes for Power Saving
Some users of Xperia devices running Android 4.4.2 KitKat suffer unusual power drain and Sony Mobile has some workarounds regarding the issue caused by Google Play Services 4.4.52.
1. Uninstall the latest updates of Google Play Services. Go to Settings > Applications > Select a Google App > Uninstall Updates. It will limit usage of certain apps such as YouTube.
2. Disable the interest-based ads on Google Play. Go to Settings > Google account > Ads > Tick the "Opt out of interest-based ads."
3. Disable data backup for Google Play Store. Go to Settings > Backup and reset (personal account) > Uncheck the "Backup my data."
4. Disable the Android Device Manager to allow uninstallation of latest updates. Go to Settings > Device Administrators > Android Device Manager.
5. Disable the automatic updates on Google Play Services. Launch the Play Store > Settings menu > Auto-updates apps > Do Not Auto-Update apps. It will prevent the installation of new updates from apps you've removed.
