Another firmware may become available for Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet after a screenshot leaked from the Xperia Z2 HSPA+ D6502 model. It carries the new build version 17.1.2.A.0.189 that supersedes 17.1.1.A.0.402.

New Firmware for Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet

A new firmware build version for Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet has been detected from a leaked screenshot via Xperia Z2 HSPA+ D6502 model. It runs the new 17.1.2.A.0.189 build version which may be released soon.

PTCRB's official certified firmware records revealed that the previous 17.1.1.A.0.402 build version is still the current available software and no updates yet of a new version for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet. If Sony is now testing the said software, we may see an upcoming post from PTCRB soon.

According to XperiaBlog, 17.1.2.A.0.189 may contain necessary bug fixing patches for Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet unless Sony Mobile has something under the sleeves to add for the two flagship devices.

Firmware Build 17.1.1.A.0.402

Owners of Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet can now update their devices to Android 4.4.2 KitKat running 17.1.1.A.0.402 build version. It has been released to deliver several improvements and enhancements to the performance and system apps.

Reports suggest that the firmware will enhance the sensitivity of the touch screen, optimise overall performance and possibly fix other major issues such as 4K video recording. However, there is no confirmation yet of what exactly the firmware does to the eligible devices.

If you haven't updated your Xperia Z2 or Xperia Z2 Tablet, it is compatible for Xperia Z2 D6502 and D6503. For Xperia Z2 Tablet, it is compatible with SGP521 LTE and SGP511 and SGP512 Wi-Fi models.

You may update the device using the Sony PC Companion installed on a Windows computer, Sony Bridge for MAC, Sony Update Service or Over the Air process using the Update Centre installed on your smartphone or tablet. Simply follow the instructions prompted to you to download and install the update.
