Sony may hold on to the trend of releasing a flagship smartphone every six months. Rumours and leaks of the Sony Xperia Z3 point to an August release date. Here is a look at the leaked specs and design features of the upcoming device.

According to the leaked specs by the Chinese Web site Mobile.it168, The Sony Xperia Z3 will come in a metal frame and a thinner body. Reports suggest that the device may be 7-mm thin with smaller bezel size.

The reported specs of the device include a quad core 2.5 GHz krait 450 processor and 3 GB of RAM. The specs on the camera are not expected an upgrade and will remain to be 20.7 MP for the primary camera.

There may not be any significant increase in the screen size, if any, and the display resolution is reported to be 1080 pixels. The body of the Sony Xperia Z3 may come with a PVD coating, making it more scratch resistant and corrosion resistant.

The design rumours have been confirmed in a tweet by DoomLoRD, a Sony expert who has leaked information about Sony in the past. The tweet suggests a slim bezel and a 7-mm thin Sony Xperia Z3. But the device may not have the Snapdragon 805 chipset and stick to the Snapdragon 801, which is currently available on the Xperia Z2.

The leak also mentions that Sony may do away with the Z Ultra line and there will be no successor to the Sony Xperia Z Ultra smartphone. The device was launched in July 2013 and had a massive 6.4-inch screen.

Tech enthusiasts may be disappointed for not finding a QHD display in the Sony Xperia Z3. There may not be any difference in the specs of the camera, but the features may get an upgrade.

One possibility is being able to shoot a 4k video for a longer duration without encountering many problems, such as the battery heating up. Another major concern that Sony Xperia Z2 users have reported is gaps in the body of the phone between the glass face and the metal frame. Sony may need to address both these issues in its upcoming flagship.

The Sony Xperia Z3 is rumoured to be launching in August, although some analysts peg the release date to be in September. The time frame of six months between the launch of two smartphones may prompt readers to wait before purchasing their next Sony device.
