Sophie Hunter, Benedict Cumberbatch's Wife Shares Her Wedding Gown Details With 'Vogue'
Benedict Cumberbatch’s new wife Sophie Hunter has revealed her wedding gown in the latest issue of U.S. Vogue. The British theatre and opera director and actress has given the details of her Valentino haute couture gown. The entire process of designing and making of the dress was captured by Annie Leibovitz for the magazine.
Valentino took to Instagram on March 26 and shared a photo of Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, creative directors of Valentino posing with the beautiful bride. The 37-year-old actress was pictured in an intricately embroidered long sleeved gown. Made of delicate silver lace, the gown featured a high neck and an empire waist to accommodate her growing baby bump.
Sophie was photographed on the famous maison’s cutting table with seamstresses at work behind and a rail stacked with lots of dreamy gowns. The designer duo worked on the wedding dress for three months while they take at least six months to finish a wedding gown. According to Vogue, Sophie brought her paper mood boards to a meeting with the Valentino designers and during their three-hour brainstorm session, she showed them Anna Karenina-inspired dresses and Gustav Klimt landscapes. The result was the exquisite, pale silver dress, embroidered with motifs of vines and pomegranates. The couture house works with just 25 brides a year. Valentino also made her a matching silk and velvet cape, keeping in mind rains. “It seemed to encapsulate everything I’d been speaking about. It feels very much of nature and it’s so detailed and extraordinary that I’m still trying to get my head around how beautiful it is,” the actress said.
Valentino since its inception in 1960 has dressed Elizabeth Taylor, Anne Hathaway, Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands and Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece in their bespoke wedding gowns. Earlier, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney had her wedding dress fitting with the late Oscar de la Renta captured for U.S. Vogue ahead of her marriage to Hollywood actor George Clooney. Cumberbatch and Hunter got married on Valentine's Day this February at a church on the Isle of Wight. The couple had announced their engagement though a newspaper ad in November 2014. But, what has raised questions is the exact date of the duo’s wedding. As the Valentino Instagram post says that it was held this month. The newly-weds went for their honeymoon to California.
