Sophie Monk lashes out on Kyle Sandilands after humiliating her with Bardot and ARIA joke live on stage
Sophie Monk was a member of the girl group Bardot, which disbanded.
Kyle Sandilands was told off by Sophie Monk after he embarrassed her live and on stage at the ARIAs. The two presented the ARIA award for Best Pop Release. On stage, Sandilands jokingly told Monk “Now Soph, we just heard your song when we came out, how many ARIAs did you win when you were in Bardot?” to which monk paused and curtly replied “None.”
Sandiland added that Monk “should bring the girls back together again” to which Monk said that “we probably should.” While it looks like everything has been handled properly, reports say that things got messy just after a while. Sandilands revealed recently that once they went backstage, the heat went on.
News.com.au reports that Monk had a go at Sandilands once they went backstage. This was because of the embarrassment caused when the KIIS FM radio star brought up Bardot, which made her feel mocked. He reveals that Monk angrily told him “Put me on the spot about putting the girls back... we never got on!” Sandilands said that he thought everyone knew that they loved each other. Even Jackie O who was a judge on Popstars, where the pop girl group rose to fame, did not know that the girls hated each other.
The girl group Bardot was formed in 1999 on the Australian reality series “Popstars.” After taking part in the contest, the group released a self titled album the following year, which topped many charts and hit the number one hit single “Poison.” The girl group was nominated for three ARIAs that year but lost the award to Madison Avenue and Savage Garden. In 2001, they released a sophomore album but split just shortly after. Afterwards, all members of the group launched their individual careers with different levels of success.
With regard to their split, the group released a statement that cited exhaustion as the main reason for the breakup. The group was made of Chantelle Barry, Belinda Chapple, Sophie Monk, Sally Polihronas and Katie Underwood. As for Monk, she initially carried on her pop career with solo hits that include “Get The Music On” and “Inside Outside” before she completely left such for a career in Hollywood.
