Soulja Boy has angered members of the US military with an "anti-army" rap.

The American hip-hop star has ignited controversy because of the lyrics of his new track Let's Be Real, which includes the line: "F**k the FBI and the army troops ... fighting for what? Be your own man ... "

Consequently military veterans have demanded an apology from the unwavering 21-year-old over his "offensive" lyrics.

Retired marine Fred A. Flores says Soulja Boy - whose real name is DeAndre Coretz Way - should face the consequences of his actions.

"It's a very offensive statement ... especially with the tenth anniversary of 9/11 coming up," he told TMZ. "He should apologise to all armed forces."

Flores analyses that Soulja Boy's lyrics are reckless considering his pop star status. The retired military expert stressed that the rapper should think more carefully about his messages before sending them to a global audience.

"[The rap] is very irresponsible," he said, "especially for a person who is an entertainer for the youth of our country."

Soulja Boy's representative refused to comment.

While Flores may make a fair point, freedom of speech and expression is something to be given consideration. Surely a few lyrics will not compel all youth to disrespect and disregard the military.
