South Australian Police Seize Drugs Valued At $150M
As a result of their two-year thorough investigation on outlaw motorcycle gangs, the South Australian Police has confiscated more than $150 million in a drug bust. The Serious and Organised Crime Branch were looking into a group with direct links to the Descendants motorcycle gang. Members of the group have long been suspected manufacturing and trafficking large amounts of drugs.
The Australian police made four arrests, including three members of the Descendants. The main moneymaker of the group was reportedly the methamphetamine. It was reported to have been part of $1.5 million in street drug deals, and arguably the highest value in the operation.
The arrests were made when three surreptitious methamphetamine labs were raided between June and October of 2013. These were then eventually connected to the group in question. Police noted the group might have been involved with burying copious amounts of methamphetamine and ecstasy tablets in Inglewood.
Various drugs that were included in the raid were 21 kilograms methamphetamine, 21,000 ecstasy tablets, 587 grams of cocaine, 7.5 liters of a drug known as fantasy and 4 kilograms of pseudoephedrine. Also seized from Dry Creek, Northern Adelaide, were $240,000 in cash and two illegal handguns.
According to reports, those arrested will be charged with "participating in a criminal group, taking part in the manufacture of a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, trafficking a commercial quantity of controlled drugs, aggravated firearm possession, possession of precursors and unlawful possession of cash."
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Taylor said he is positive that this will lead in more arrests and drug busts in connection to bike gangs all over the country. Although he is not saying that the syndicate has been done away with, it is a step of greater things to come.
It will not be easy though as large scale operations such as these are, by nature, multifaceted and highly sophisticated. However, he is optimistic that one aspect of the investigation was over. He also assured the public that raids and arrests will continue until everyone involved has been apprehended.
