Southwest Airlines Crash Lands in NY After Nose Diving Onto Runway
A plane crashed at La Guardia airport after its landing gear crashed on Monday.
Investigators are looking at the possible reasons for the crash. "The aircraft skidded down the runway on its nose and then veered off and came to rest in the grass area," said, Thomas Bosco, Acting Director of Aviation for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
He dded that the nose gear collapsed from the plane during the time of landing at 5.40pm.
According to acounts by friends and family, a spark was seen on the runway, as the nose scraped the the runway. The plane experienced delays as it had been leaving Nashville. The woman Anniebell Hannah and others heard an announcement signaling "something was wrong with a tyre," reports BBC.
She added, "I hit my head against the seat in front of me." during landing. Delays are expected on flights coming into New York.
Planes flying to LaGuardia were rerouted or held at their origin airports. The planes already en route were diverted to New York's other airports like Newark and JFK, contributing to long delays, reports the New York Post.
The crash in landing gear comes 16 days after an Air Asiana plane crash landed in San Francisco, killing three teenagers. One of them was supposedly killed by a fire engine during rescue.
