'Spider-Man': Find Out The Reason Marvel Hired Jon Watts To Direct Film
Kevin Feige revealed in his recent interview why Marvel chose Jon Watts to helm the solo “Spider-Man” film. Reportedly, they were impressed by his work in “Cop Car.” There were many filmmakers who were shortlisted to direct the film but Feige, Amy Pascal, producers Jeremy Latcham and Louis D’Esposito liked Watts’ growth as a director.
“We really liked his movie Cop Car, we met with him four, five, or six times, and each time he had more and more interesting things to say. And at Marvel, it always comes down to ultimately, ‘We can make a movie with this person for two years, we could spend almost every day with this person for two years,” Feige said to Collider.
“Cop Car” is an American road thriller which tells a story of a small town sheriff who finds two kids who have taken his police car for a ride. The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival and stars Kevin Bacon.
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Englsih actor Tom Holland who has been shortlisted to play Spider-Man, auditioned for the part with Robert Downey, Jr. The two reportedly exchanged dialogues, which were exclusively written for the screen test. Holland will also be seen in a small part in “Captain America: Civil War.” However, it is not known how will he factor in the film.
“Spider-Man” is set to release in 2017. It will reportedly follow the younger years of Peter Parker in school where he will be shown looking up to other superheroes,” Zap2It reported.
Feige also said in his previous interview with Birth Movies Death that the solo Spider-Man outing will be inspired by the late filmmaker John Hughes’ films, who was known for making coming-of-age teen films, including “Home Alone,” Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Sixteen Candle" and "The Breakfast Club." It is quite possible that Marvel merges "Spider-Man" with Hughes' kind of comedy. The last Spider-Man film, titled “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” starred Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone and was a box-office success.
