Spiderman Andrew Garfield consults "7 year-old self" for the superhero role
The new Spiderman Andrew Garfield confesses his excitement over portraying the super hero, saying "this is what we've been waiting for." Garfield said that playing Spiderman on-screen is an honor, emphasizing that it means a great deal for the British actor to be part of "this very important symbol."
"I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, "Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you've always wanted to be all your life, and we're going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you're going to feel like you're swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?," narrates Garfield to The Hollywood Reporter.
Andrew joked that he had been in consultation with his seven years old self to answer that phone call, and what seven years old could say "No" to spinning web and traversing New York City swinging from building to building? Garfield says his seven-year old self started screaming "in [his] soul" and saying:
"This is what we've been waiting for. Like every young boy who feels stronger on the inside than they look on the outside, any skinny boy basically who wishes their muscles matched their sense of injustice."
The British actor said that Spiderman is "just the stuff that dreams are made of, for sure." Being able to portray Spiderman on-screen is an honor, equating the "friendly neighbor" to a very important symbol. Garfield feels that he had been preparing for the role ever since Halloween when he was four years old and wore his first Spiderman costume
."It's a true f-ing honor to be part of this symbol that I actually think is a very important symbol and it's meant a great deal to me, and it continues to mean something to people," the actor said. " So yeah, I feel like I've been preparing for it for a while. Ever since Halloween when I was four years old and I wore my first Spider-Man costume."
At present, Andrew Garfield is busy promoting his latest film Never Let Me Go.
