Splendour in the Grass 2013: Five Must-See International Acts to Watch At the Festival (Videos)
Splendour in the Grass kicks off Friday, July 26, at Byron Bay. Before you leave for the festival , make sure you have your gumboots just to keep ready for any unexpected rain showers over the weekend, and most importantly, the timetable to keep track of your favorite artists' set performances.
British folk rockers Mumford & Sons will be headlining tonight's festival at the Supertop Stage.More than 80 bands are performing at this year's Splendour, including Laura Marling, Of Monsters and Men, Architecture in Helsinki, and Aussie duo Empire of the Sun.
Here are other 8 hot international acts slated to grace the three Splendour stages this weekend.
1. Frank Ocean
Splendour in the Grass is Frank Ocean's first Australian headline show. He was a former member of hip-hop group Odd Future before going solo. His critically acclaimed 2011 debut mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra, includes the controversial song American Wedding, which samples The Eagles' Hotel California. His debut studio album, Channel Orange, was also a hit among critics. The R&B singer also confirmed that he is gay.
He will be headlining the Supertop Stage on Sunday, July 28 at around 11 pm.
2. The National
The National is slated to perform on Saturday, July 27, at the Supertop Stage at 10:30 pm, right after Empire of the Sun. The Brooklyn-based indie rock band's fifth album, 2010's High Violet, reached gold in Australia. Expect the band to play a number of new songs from their latest album, Trouble Will Find Me, which is currently at the number 2 position in the Australian Album Charts.
3. Passion Pit
Passion Pit's infectiously happy tunes are what most music fans can expect from them. Their second studio album, Gossamer, was released on July 2012. After Splendour, Passion Pit will continue their Australian Tour and will be performing at Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide until August. Catch them perform at Splendour's Supertop Stage on July 28 at 8 pm after the Mystery Band performs.
4. Cold War Kids
California-based indie band Cold War Kids will also tour Australia, aside from headlining Splendour 2013. Their set at the Supertop stage on July 27 will start at around 6 pm. Their latest album, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts, received favourable reviews compared to their last album Mine Is Yours. Watch them perform their latest single, Miracle Mile, below.
5. Haim
Haim is composed of siblings Este, Danielle and Alana Haim. They are currently signed under Jay-Z's Roc Nation and have just finished recording their debut LP in Australia. The trio will grace the Supertop Stage today after California surf rock band Wavves.
