After the "Family Guy" killed off Brian Griffin, aged 8, the show resuscitated the favourite canine character back in a snap. For fans who thought Brian was being replaced in the show's credits signaled the final goodbye to the educated dog, Sunday's episode entitled "Christmas Guy," made everything clear.

The new dog, Vinny gave his best efforts to fill in Brian's void in Stewie's life, the little guy was still heartbroken. He even told a mall Santa that all he wanted for Christmas is to have his pooch Brian back. But the guy is unable to go back in time and fix this problem because his time machine was broken in the same episode where Brian died. He bumps into a past version of himself around a toy store though and realizes that that younger Stewie might still have a time machine.

One quick adjustment of temporal physics law and Stewie is already going back in time to push Brian out of the way before a car hits him. Stewie is then back to the alternate-universe and reunites with his family celebrating Christmas with the dog knowing that something has changed. Brian is back!

The stint was widely criticized, saying it was just a cheap grab of attention but the show's creator, Seth MacFarlane revealed the real reason for Brian's death in his tweet, saying, "And thus endeth our warm, fuzzy holiday lesson: Never take those you love for granted, for they can be gone in a flash." He followed it with a NSFW tweet, saying "I mean, you didn't really think we'd kill off Brian, did you? Je-s, we'd have to be f-king high." He ended it with a more sentimental message for the fans, though, saying, "Oh and hey... thanks for caring so much about the canine Griffin. He is overcome with gratitude."

Fans appear to be relieved that things are back to normal in their favourite show, too. Fan @lezuric tweeted: "BRIAN IS BACK!! BRIAN IS BACK BRIAN IS BACK!!!! #FamilyGuy #dancin #merrychristmas." Another fan, @jambowambo wrote, "I don't even care, I cried at Family Guy when Brian came back! Stewie is so cute!" Thanks to the 128,000 fans who signed the "Bring Brian Back" petition.
