Sports Personality 2013 Award: BBC Announces nominees, Andy Murray on top of shortlist
List features Chris Froome, Tony McCoy, Justin Rose and more
As 2013 is coming to an end, it's time to honor and recognize the efforts of a sportsperson with the title "Sports Personality of the Year 2013". BBC has announced its shortlist consisting of nominees that stand a chance to win the 60th BBC Sports Personality of The Year Award. Andy Murray is at the top of the list, which also includes Chris Froome, Tony McCoy, Justin Rose, among others.
In total, 10 stars from the sports world have been nominated for this top award in the field. The list has been prepared by a panel of experts. These 10 contenders will be pitted against each other for public votes to win the title and award. The list was announced on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013.

For BBC's 60th Sports Personality of the Year award, the public will be able to vote for their favorite sports personality starting Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013. Voting will be conducted over the phone. Also, for the first time ever, people can also vote online. However, people can vote online during the programme only. The programme presenters are Gary Lineker, Clare Balding and Gabby Logan.
In addition to the main award, there are seven more awards that will be given away to the personalities from the field of sports: Coach of the Year, Team of the Year, Young Sports Personality of the Year, Helen Rollason Award, Sports Personality of the Year Diamond Award, Overseas Sports Personality of the Year, and Sports Unsung Hero.
The BBC Sports Personality of 2013 shortlist consists of both men and women, regardless of sex and gender. However, BBC has faced some criticism on the matter, as only two women athletes, Hannah Cockroft and Christine Ohuruogu, made it to the shortlist.
Andy Murray, the Wimbledon champion, is the top favorite among the shortlisters. Giving him strong competition are Tour de France champion, British cyclist Chris Froome, and U.S. Open winner Justin Rose. The winner will be announced during the programme, which will be broadcasted live on BBC One on Dec. 15, 2013.
