'Spring Breakers' Rave Reviews at the 2012 Venice Film Festival
'Spring Breakers' hit off the 2012 Venice Film Festival just yesterday but great and rave reviews are already pouring in. The film starring Selena Gomez, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine has been dubbed as the must see movie. What exactly are critics saying about the Harmony Korine-directed film?
Harmony Korine's last work of art was 18 years ago entitled, "Kids" of which he had written at the age of 21. The film directed by Larry Clark proved to be a firecracker during the 90s indie era. However, Korine's directional debut came in 1998 with the film "Gummo." The last recorded work by Korine was 2009's "Trash Humpers" shot purely on a VHS camcorder.
It's almost at the end of 2012 that Korine has released yet another one of his famed works. The plot may be fairly simple basically being about four college girls doing a quick steal and getaway. All doesn't end well for the four spring breakers when they get into a run-in with drug dealers and cops.
The film made a debut at the 2012 Venice Film Festival and like its debut at the Cannes Film Festival the reviews were on an all-time high. Indiewire described the film as Russ Meyer's "Drive" and Terry Richardson's "Point Blank." Given half of the cast hail from the children's channel, Disney, both Selena and Vanessa gave out an awesome performance.
The appearance of Oscar nominated award, James Franco, at the end of the film surprisingly gives the plot a hell good of a twist. With Franco's history of boring film ventures, Korine's film and Franco's role in it ironically made the film worth the watch according to reviews.
Fans of Selena are dying to see the film hit theaters by 2013 and the promotional stills and extended trailers are still not enough to satiate their hunger for more. Who could blame the fans when nothing but great reviews has been pouring in?
2013 is a while away wait but for dedicated fans of Gomez, Benson, Franco and Hudgens, "Spring Breakers" is definitely worth every tick off the calendar. Annapurna Pictures had announced acquiring US distribution rights for the film so fans better believe that the film will hit theaters soon enough.
