"Star Trek 3" is slated to be released in 2016. According to a new report, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy will both be featuring in the movie. The two actors have played the iconic roles of Captain Kirk and Spock respectively in the popular TV series and many movies from the franchise.

If the reports are true, the two actors will be seen playing their respective roles together after more than two decades. The actors were last seen together in the movie "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country." The movie was released in 1991 and was about Kirk trying to uncover a deadly plot and stop a new war with the Klingon Empire.

Kirk and Spock may once again join hands to take on a new threat. According to a report by BadassDigest, the roles may not be limited to just a cameo appearance but instead will be driven by the plot of the movie. One of the hindrances, according to the report, is whether or not William Shatner will agree to the role.

Readers should note that Leonard Nimoy has reprised his role as Spock in the two recent "Star Trek" movies. He is seen working with and advising the younger Spock, played by Zachary Quinto. Both the movies were directed by J.J. Abrams.

Roberto Orci has taken over the reins to direct "Star Trek 3" from J.J.Abrams, who is busy filming "Star Wars 7." The movie is due to be released by Christmas of 2015. Filming for the "Star Wars 7" is currently ongoing. The movie has been plagued by repeated leaks of photos from the sets.

Production is yet to begin for "Star Trek 3." The companies involved in the production include Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. There have still not been any reports of casting or plot details of the movie. The exact release date of the movie is also yet to be announced by the producers.

Will William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy meet once again as Kirk and Spock in "Star Trek 3"? The two actors coming together may be for the last time and fans of the franchise are excited about the possibility.
