'Star Trek: Discovery' season 2: Saru will go through many changes
Two big additions in “Star Trek: Discovery” season 2 are Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and Spock (Ethan Peck). In a recent interview, Mount and Peck spoke about their respective characters and the relationships that their characters will build with the other officers.
Pike will be taking over as the captain of the Discovery, which is currently waiting for a new captain. Saru (Doug Jones) is the officer in charge at the moment. In a recent interview with TrekMovie, Mount spoke about the evolving dynamics of his character with Saru, and how the latter will go through a lot of changes in season 2.
Mount said that his character has never met a Kelpien before, making Saru the first one of the species he will encounter in season 2. What is interesting about Saru is that he is still trying to figure out his place in the world, and Mount said that the way the Kelpien handles this journey will determine his relationship with Pike.
Saru will go through a lot changes in the season, Mount teased. “Doug wasn’t just paying lip service, he goes through some very profound changes this season. So the relationship, and my way of encountering has to sort of fluctuate with him,” Mount said.
Peck on the other hand spoke about playing Spock. The actor revealed that the scene from the trailer, which shows his character lying unconscious before a medical team wakes him up, was the very first scene he filmed.
“They really eased me into Spock. Unconscious Spock, I could handle that,” Peck said with a laugh.
“Star Trek: Discovery” season 2 is set to premiere on Jan. 17, 2019. The plot will focus on the ship responding to a “Priority One” distress call from the USS Enterprise, after which Pike will take over as the new captain.
