'Star Trek Discovery' season 2: Spock will be different from original series
An actor has been cast to play the young Spock featured in “Star Trek Discovery” season 2. The producers are keeping this casting information under wraps at the moment, but Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman teased some details about the character in a recent interview, and he explained how the character will be different from what the fans saw in the original series.
The first trailer of the next season teased the presence of Spock, but the character was missing. In an interview with SyFy, Kurtzman confirmed that Spock will be seen on the show. The character is ten years younger than the one seen in the original series. The plot will show the evolution of the character into the Spock everyone knows and loves.
Kurtzman teased that the show will reveal how the character of Spock, both his current version and the one seen in the original series, is shaped by his relationship with his family, especially his sister Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green).
Commenting on the appearance of Spock on screen, Martin-Green said that this is a “huge deal.” She teased that the plot will not only focus on the relationships of Spock with his family, but it will also explore his relationship with the other crew members of the ship.
The addition of Spock is especially important for Michael. Fellow cast member Shazad Latif (Ash Tyler) said that the Vulcan’s entry will add a “whole extra layer” to Micahel.
Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber) said that the next season will explore a “mystery” about Michael. As far as Spock is concerned, the actor said that the fans will get to find out things about him that they don’t necessarily know.
“Star Trek Discovery” season 2 is set to premiere sometime in 2019. The producers are yet to announce an exact release date.
