‘Star Wars 7': Artoo-Detoo A 'TIE Fighter' Pilot, New Rebel Fighter Ship Revealed In Concept Photo
A new ship is speculated to debut in "Star Wars: Episode VII." A U-Wing Fighter is said to be among the rebel fighters' spacecraft and its details have been revealed courtesy of a concept photo by Fausto De Martini. The ship reportedly posts a resemblance to the Special Forces' TIE Fighter.
Making Star Wars' writer Jason Ward shared the details on the ship's design, from its shape to its cockpit description. The U-Wing Fighter, which will supposedly be featured in "Star Wars: Episode VII," does not literally have a "U" shape at all. Instead, as revealed on the concept photo, its "U" design is reportedly so wide that it somehow resembles a half circle, which is shaped more like a "C." However, the shape does not exceed in thickness from the ship's body and cockpit.
"It is basically a "U" with a Y-wing styled body coming out of the center of the "U" in essence," he said.
Furthermore, the "U" shape of the U-Wing Fighter consists of three thrusters. Two are situated at both ends while one is at the centre rear. Small movable short wings reportedly comprise the thruster engines on both ends. These wings move up and down and have laser guns attached to them.
As for the cockpit, Jason Ward claims the concept photo shows the U-Wing Fighter can hold up to two pilots. Artoo-Detoo is said to be one of them. The cockpit and the ship's body supposedly connect to the middle of the "U" shape design of the ship. According to Ward, the cockpit reminds him of the "front of the Phantom from Star Wars Rebels" since it also holds two laser guns underneath. Likewise, it poses a similarity to the Phantom because of its yellow painting along the trim and thrusters. However, the U-Wing Fighter's cockpit in "Star Wars: Episode VII" reportedly resembles a Mig 29 jet because of its round design.
Looking at the overall design of the U-Wing Fighter, Ward claims it almost looks like the Special Forces' TIE Fighter. It has wings that move up and down and its cockpit is also located at the center much like the Imperial ship. As previously reported by the International Business Times, the TIE Fighter also consists of two thrusters coming out from the middle of the ship. Additionally, John Boyega's crashed scene in "Star Wars: Episode VII" supposedly involves the TIE Fighter being gunned down over at Tatooine.
However, it's uncertain if the new U-Wing Fighter will indeed be featured as another rebel fighter ship in "Star Wars: Episode VII." So far only the Millennium Falcon and some X-Wing Fighter ships have been spotted over at the Greenham Common set of the movie.
