'Star Wars Battlefront 2' premiere - What we know so far
Following Disney acquisition of LucasFilm - including Star Wars - the studio has quickly expanded the franchise. Disney scored big with its release of "Star Wars Battlefront," but fans are now wondering what Disney has in store for the series.
" Star Wars Battlefront 2" was confirmed by EA CFO Blake Jorgensen back in May during an earnings call. GameSpot recalls how Jorgensen revealed that the second installment would feature "bigger and better worlds." He further revealed that the sequel will make use of content coming from the new films.
"Star Wars Battlefront" was a hit having sold 14 million copies. To learn more about the highly-anticipated sequel, here's everything reports have revealed so far:
"Star Wars Battlefront 2" Release Date
During the earning call, Jorgensen also detailed that Star Wars games would be released annually for the next three to four years. Battlefront 2 was slated for release "next year," but it's unclear if he meant the 2017 calendar year or EA's following fiscal year. "Star Wars Battlefront" was released Nov. 17, 2015 and is playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.
"Star Wars Battlefront 2" Plot & Characters
The original game title featured content and characters from the original "Star Wars" films, including "Star Wars: Rogue One," which was a prequel to the original film released in 1977. "The 'Star Wars' universe is just unbelievable to build games in because it's so vast," Jorgensen said.
With this in mind, the second game title is expected to have more sci-fi related content and feature a single-player campaign. Further, the new "Star Wars" action game will be more "exploration-based." Similarly, Scified adds that the game will include content from the Clone Wars era.
"Star Wars Battlefront 2" Trailer
In light of the confirmation that a second Battlefront will be releasing, ScreenRant reported that with the Star Wars Celebration 2017 a few weeks away, it's possible this will be where the first game trailer will be launched.
"A trailer for Battlefront 2 at Star Wars Celebration won’t be too much of a surprise," wrote the publication. With the game slated for release before "Star Wars: Episode 8 — The Last Jedi" hits cinemas, we could see more on the upcoming game title sooner rather than later.
In addition to this, Disney is also planning to release a "Star Wars" movie every year until 2019. Films will be alternating each year between the main series film and that of a spin-off movie.
