‘Star Wars Battlefront’ sequel confirmed for 2017, Be Spin possible content teased
Electronic Arts and DICE has a lot of notable games lined up. The developer has now announced the sequel to “Star Wars Battlefront,” set to release in 2017.
This was confirmed by EA CFO Blake Jorgensen at an earnings call. Without diving into details, Jorgensen teased that there will be bigger worlds, some of which will be based on content found in the new movies, GameSpot reported. What exactly this content and these new movies pertain to is anyone’s guess at this point.
“Star Wars Battlefront” has only included the worlds from the original trilogy of movies. It is possible; that the sequel can extend to either the succeeding three or even get into the more recent string of movies, started by “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.”
Although it is likely that the developer will incorporate new worlds one step at a time. For the next three to four years, EA appears to have laid out one “Star Wars” title coming out. It’s also not definite yet if this means an annual release of “Star Wars Battlefront” or if it means other “Star Wars” titles are in the pipeline.
In an earlier report, Jorgensen had also shared to PC Gamer that the company is trying to deliver the most out of the licensing deal that it has with Disney for the “Star Wars” franchise.
“Our goal is to make future Battlefront games as well as other style games around the Star Wars franchise, both on mobile as well as console and PC. It’s a huge opportunity for us,” said Jorgensen as quoted by PC Gamer.
The source did hint that Dead Space studio Visceral and Motive are looking to create an action game on the franchise. Whether this already counts as one “Star Wars” game for the year remains to be confirmed.
The current “Star Wars Battlefront” title still has the Battlefront Bespin expansion pack set for June. The next setting is in and around Cloud City, with four more maps coming to all of the popular modes. More heroes are also coming, which will boost the number by eight thanks to the Season Pass inclusions.
Over at the official “Star Wars Battlefront” website, the developer has confirmed that there will be new events and content, as well as Hutt Contracts that can be unlocked.
