'Star Wars: Darth Maul' comics: Cover page and preview pictures released; 'Force Awakens' Easter Egg
The plot of Marvel comic series “Star Wars: Darth Maul” is set before the events in the film “The Phantom Menace.” The cover page of the first issue of the miniseries and a set of preview pictures have now been released online. The fans will get to see different shades of the character’s personality and his relationship with his master Darth Sidious in the comics.
[Spoiler alert]
The cover page of the new comic series shows Darth Maul wielding his popular double- bladed lightsaber. The preview pictures posted on the official Star Wars website shows him battling Rathtars, the creatures that Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) were hauling in their freighter in “The Force Awakens.”
Writer Cullen Bunn revealed that in the story Maul is anxious and impatient. He has been trained by Darth Sidious to hate the Jedi, but is under strict orders to remain hidden. The restrictions by his master are driving the young Sith “crazy.” He wants to test his powers against the Jedi, and is willing to defy his master’s orders to do so.
Darth Maul will get his chance to go against a Jedi when he learns that a powerful crime lord has captured a Padawan. He has to work in secret because he knows that Darth Sidious will not approve of his plan.
“The relationship between a Sith Master and apprentice is not a kind one,” Bunn said. There will be a little “contentiousness” between the two in the Marvel comic series. The plot is about the student rebelling against his master, and will help shape the future events when it come to the relationship between the two Sith.
“Star Wars: Darth Maul” comics will take the readers to familiar locations, and will also add new places in the galaxy. Bunn promised the readers will get a better understanding of what makes the Sith tick. The writer wants the fans to fear the character, respect him and in some occasions feel a little pity for him.
