'Star Wars: Episode 8' spoilers: Kylo Ren and Rey's connection explained by J.J. Abrams
J.J. Abrams revealed new details about the connection between Kylo Ren and Rey, which will have a big impact on all the theories about “Star Wars: Episode 8.” The comments are a part of the Collector’s Edition of “The Force Awakens.”
[Spoiler alert]
Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) have never met before the events in “The Force Awakens,” Abrams said in his commentary about the movie, Star Wars News Net reports. The director later added that the new villain has heard of the girl.
Many of the fans assumed that the villain knew Rey from before because of the vision in “The Force Awakens,” in which Kylo Ren can be seen clearly. In another scene in the movie he appeared to be aware of Ridley’s character when he was informed by an Imperial officer about their inability to acquire the droid on Jakku and informed him about a girl.
Kylo Ren and Rey will have a “very interesting relationship” in “Star Wars: Episode 8,” Abrams said. The next movie is expected to focus on the parallel journeys of the two characters, with one training to become a Sith under Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) while the other trains to be a Jedi under Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
Rey’s background has been a mystery so far with many of the theories focused on who her parents are. It is interesting to note that Kylo Ren has heard about her, but never met her. Is there another prophecy that he has heard? Or is he related to her and heard about her from his parents?
Another interesting comment by Abrams is that Kylo Ren regrets killing his father. So, there will be the question of the pull to the Light side of the Force for him in “Star Wars: Episode 8.”
