"I certainly don't want anyone else playing Qui-Gon Jinn," he said.
Liam Neeson portrayed the role of Qui-Gon Jinn in "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace." His involvement in the movie series reportedly ended when the Jedi Master was killed by Darth Maul (Ray Park) at the end of the film. Although the actor hasn't been in any of the remaining sequels, Neeson actively lent his voice as Force Ghost in the animation "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" according to Movieweb. The "Taken" actor voiced his iconic character in three episodes.
Qui-Gon Jinn was reportedly also hinted at in "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones" when Anakin massacred the Sandpeople. Likewise, his name was mentioned at the end of "Revenge of the Sith" for his discovery of immortality.
It's speculated that Liam Neeson could appear in "Star Wars: Episode VII" as Force Ghost. But it's uncertain whom he will interact with according to Movieweb. The site adds the possibility that the actor could be cast in one of the three "Star Wars" spinoff movies. However, there is the matter of the character's timeline to consider.
As in "Episode VII," Liam said so himself during the interview that Qui-Gon Jinn's generation "came way, way before Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia and Harrison Ford's Han Solo. So it would reportedly be too far back for the Jedi Master to make an appearance.
"Star Wars: Episode VII" is slated for a U.S. release on Dec. 18, 2015.
