Walt Disney has announced that Star Wars: Episode VII is set to be launched Dec. 18, 2015. The movie needs time to deliver a sensational experience, featuring J.J. Abrams as the director and anchoring the popular holiday movie-going season.

Abrams, Bryan Burk and Kathleen Kennedy of Lucasfilm are the movie producers, while Oscar-winning composer John Williams returns to score his seventh Star Wars project.

Episode VII is written by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan, along with "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi." It remains to be seen how the movie will influence Episodes VIII and IX, which are expected to be released in 2017 and 2019. Filming is set to begin in the spring at Pinewood Studios near London. This is the first Star Wars movie that's not released in May. There are rumored Star Wars spinoff that Disney is planning to release in 2016 and 2018.

Possible sequel content might include:

- R2-D2 and C-3PO might be the only characters to continue throughout all nine movies

- The trilogy deals with rebuilding the Republic

- Luke will have a romantic relationship with a lady love interest

- The trilogy will involve philosophical and moral issues like the wisdom to distinguish what is right from wrong, confrontation, justice and passing your learning to the next generation

- Key characters are Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia

Lucas also revealed that Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill will all appear in Episode VII. Peter Mayhem, the original actor for Chewbacca, has expressed interest in reprising his role, in spite of his medical conditions. Ewan McGregor, Leonard Nimoy and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson also expressed interest in appearing in the movie.

Casting calls also reveal character details such as a 17 to 18-year old young woman and a 19 to 23-year-old man who are both beautiful, smart and athletic.

Rachel was young when she lost both of her parents and with no family. She was forced to survive in a dangerous town. That made her strong and street-smart to take care of herself with guts and humor. Thomas grew up with no paternal influence. Without a father figure, he doesn't have a strong sense but he remains capable, smart and courageous. He appears to understand the absurdities of life.
