‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens': Daisy Ridley teases Rey's background story, talks about character’s 'relatable' personality
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” actress Daisy Ridley recently teased what fans should expect to see from her character in the film. She also talked about her audition process and the many attempts she made just to land the role of Rey in the film.
Ridley sat down with The Hollywood Reporter for an exclusive magazine interview where she was asked about “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” When asked how much she can relate to her character in the film, the 23-year old said she and Rey are very much alike on how they deal with things.
“She faces a lot of challenges throughout the film, and the way she reacts to things I think is kind of the way anyone would. That's why I think she's so universal and brilliant: She's frightened but she faces up to what she needs to. And she's brave and smart, and you see an entire emotional spectrum of her throughout the film,” she said.
Ridley also teased what could be Rey’s background story in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” when she described her character as a “normal girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances.” She said the J.J. Abrams’ film tells “an emotional story about a girl on a journey, but the story is a lot more than that.”
In the same interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Ridley revealed she had four or five auditions for Rey in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” She reportedly had this “weird feeling” telling her to audition for the part and her last reading for Rey finally paid off.
[Spoiler alert]
It’s been widely rumoured that Rey sets off the search for Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” after discovering his lightsaber in the desert. She befriends Finn (John Boyega), a Stormtrooper who has gone AWOL, and together they go on a journey to find the rightful owner of the Jedi relic. Along their journey they meet Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) aboard the Millennium Falcon. The team then sets off to search for Luke Skywalker who is believed to be on self-exile for the past 30 years since the events in “Return of the Jedi.”
