'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' spoilers: Captain Phasma's 'killer' look with new weapon; Frank Oz on Yoda cameo
Captain Phasma will reportedly be getting a new weapon in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” It is still not clear if she will get to use it in battle, but it may have other purposes. Meanwhile, Puppeteer Frank Oz was evasive while talking about a Yoda cameo in the upcoming film. The following article contains spoilers.
A source has told Making Star Wars, a reliable website for news about the franchise, that Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) will be getting a spear this year, and the source said the character has a “killer” look because of it. The character was seen with a blaster in “The Force Awakens,” but she didn’t get a chance to use it in battle.
The sequel may also not give Captain Phasma a lot of opportunity to fight, but her spear may have other purposes. The report notes that the weapon may have ornamental use in the First Order rituals. Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) is said to have some Royal Guards around him, which is in line with this new bit of information about Christie’s character.
Emperor Palpatine also had his own personal Royal Guards dressed in full red. It will be interesting to see what the guards of Snoke will look like in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” After teasing his appearance in “The Force Awakens” through hologram, the leader of the First Order is set to make an in the flesh appearance in the upcoming film.
Another character who may get a cameo in the film is Yoda. Although there has been no official confirmation yet, there have been reports of the character either making an appearance as a Force Ghost or it could be just the voice, the way it was in Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) vision in “Force Awakens.”
Puppeteer Frank Oz, who has leant his voice for the character Yoda before, was recently asked by Variety to talk about the popular Jedi Master. Oz said that he has been asked not to talk about it, but is happy to share details as soon as he is allowed to do so.
Details about the upcoming Rian Johnson film are still being kept under wraps. The first teaser trailer is expected to be released soon. Fans can expect to learn more during the panel discussion at the Celebrations event in Orlando, which is scheduled to take place between April 13 and 16.
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will be released on Dec. 15 in Australia. The cast members include John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) and Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux).
