A leaked trailer (below) of the upcoming animation series "Star Wars: Rebels" has revealed the release date for the series. The trailer also shows a famous Jedi master from the movies. The TV series is set to introduce new characters and tells the story of the rise of the rebellion.

The leaked trailer suggests "Star Wars: Rebels" will be released in October. The trailer also shows a hologram of Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Jedi may not actually play a major role in the TV series though.

The trailer is in French language, so the release date mentioned in the trailer may be more specific to the European market. There is no information yet on the actual premiere dates in other markets such as Australia and the U.S.

"Star Wars: Rebels" is a bridge between the story line of Episodes 3 and Episode 4. The story features new heroes, namely Ezra, Kanan, Hera, Zeb, Sabine and an astromech droid called Chopper. On the imperial side, viewers will get to see a new character called the Inquisitor.

The plot of the series is based on hunting down any resistance to the Empire and eliminating any remaining Jedi. Movie buffs who have seen the "Star Wars" movies will know that most of the Jedi were killed after the emperor issued the infamous order 66.

Viewers can also expect to see a few Mandalorian warriors in the TV series. There are some rumours suggesting the new villains in the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode 7" movie will be Mandalorians.

Kanan, one of the members of the rebel group, is also a Jedi. In some ways, he is also the leader of the group. His preferred weapon may not always be a lightsaber, but he is forced to pick it up once again to fight for a good cause. He has taken pains to hide his past after going underground due to order 66.

With complex characters, lots of humour and action, "Star Wars: Rebels" is turning out to be a must watch for fans of the franchise. The official release date information is still awaited from the producers.
