'Star Wars' Spin-Off: Felicity Jones To Play Lead Role In The Gareth Edwards Film—Report
Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones could star in a “Star Wars” spin-off. In a recent report, it has been revealed that the actress has been roped in to star in the “Star Wars” standalone movie to be directed by Gareth Edwards. Jones will reportedly play the lead in the film.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Jones took part in the script reading and role testing session of the film in Los Angeles. Jones competed for the role with Rooney Mara and Tatiana Maslany. The plot of the film is unknown. Chris Weitz has written the film while Gary Whitta has reportedly written the first draft of the screenplay.
Though not much is known about the film, it is speculated that it can focus on the early days of characters Princess Leia and Han Solo, according to Variety. Sources have also suggested that Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez could star as the male lead in the film, according to Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, Jones is yet to comment about the “Star Wars” spin-off.
Meanwhile, Jones has been nominated for her role in “The Theory of Everything.” In the film, she plays Stephen Hawkings’ wife, Jane Wilde Hawking. Other actresses who have been nominated for the award include Marion Cotillard, Rosamund Pike, Reese Witherspoon and Julianne Moore.
Jones also stars in a film called “True Story.” She plays the role of Jill in the film. The film recently premiered at Sundance Film Festival and it also stars James Franco and Jonah Hill.
Jones is also currently busy shooting for the film “A Monster Calls.” It is a family fantasy film directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and is based on the 2011 novel of the same title by Patrick Ness. The film also stars Lewis MacDougall, Liam Neeson, Sigourney Weaver, Toby Kebbell and Geraldine Chaplin. It is scheduled to be released on Oct. 14, 2016.
