Staying Healthy Avoids Office Stress, Heart Attack Risks
People dealing with high stress at work have 23 per cent more risk of a heart attack, according to an authoritative research put down in the Lancet medical journal. A healthy lifestyle, which includes eating healthy food, exercising and meditating, is being advised by doctors to avoid stress at work.
According to the research paper in the Lancet medical journal, stress-filled jobs are extremely demanding, which in turn interferes in the individual' daily decision-making and routine function. Professor Mika Kivimäki, who led the study, involving nearly 200,000 people from seven European countries, said, "Our findings indicate that job strain is associated with a small, but consistent, increased risk of experiencing a first CHD [coronary heart disease] event such as a heart attack."
Work at office or home can be very demanding and needless to say will deprive you of your physical and emotional energy. To avoid being burnt out and landing up in the hospital with a heart attack, here are few easy tips that you can follow to avoid office stress.
Eat Healthy: The food that you consume has a direct implication on the brain and affects your stress level. It has been proved that certain foods and drinks like tea, coffee, energy and soft drinks, alcohol, cocoa, butter, cheese, sugar, meat and shellfish aggravate stress. If you cannot give them up completely, reduce their intake and replace them with healthy food like fresh vegetables and fruits, fish, soups, yoghurts and herbs. And yes, don't forget to drink lots of water as water helps burn fat and increase energy levels.
Sleep Well: While work and getting things done are important, relaxing and getting enough sleep everyday is equally necessary. If you get at least 7-8 hours of sleep, you are good for the day.
Exercise: This is no rocket science and easily achievable. A half an hour brisk walk, using the stairs instead of the lift and work or simply getting up to answer your calls helps in relieving your stress and increases your focus.
Meditate, Breath Deeply: Sit straight, close your eyes, take deep breaths and focus on pleasant and positive things. 10-15 minutes of meditation and deep breathing will make you feel relaxed and relieve stress.
