The Golden State Warriors were down 26 points on the road against the upstart Boston Celtics so Stephen Curry decided to get hot just in time to lead his squad to a stirring 106-101 comeback victory on Sunday night.

Curry, one half of the “Splash Brothers”, finished with 37 points including five 3-pointers while shooting an efficient 14-of-22 from the field and Klay Thompson, the other half of the hot-shooting duo, ended up with 20 markers to lead the Warriors, which improved to 46-11 for the season, still the best record in the entire league.

The Celtics built a surprising 38-25 lead after the first quarter and doubled it 26 points, 56-30 in the middle of the second quarter to take control of the match-up between the West’s top team and one of East’s weaker teams.

The Warriors cut the advantage down to 16 before the halftime break, down to 9 at the end of the third quarter and finally tied the game at 94-all with a little over four minutes to go in the game. From there, the Warriors showed more poise and outscored the Celtics, 12-7 in the final moments and Golden State got the road victory.

It was another disappointing finish for the Celtics, which had six players in double-figure scoring. Isaiah Thomas came off the bench to lead Boston with 20 points while starters Tyler Zeller (17 points and 6 rebounds) and Brandon Bass (15 points and 12 rebounds) both had good games. After scoring 38 points in the opening quarter, the Celtics only scored 36 points combined for the thir and fourth quarters.

So close to the upset victory, the Celtics instead suffered their first loss in the past four games. Boston travels to Cleveland to take on LeBron James and the Cavaliers on Tuesday before facing the Utah Jazz back at home on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Golden State is in the tail-end of a long six-game road trip— they had wins against the Toronto Raptors, Washington Wizards and Celtics but suffered losses against the Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers— taking on the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.
