Is cancelling festival appearance the norm these days? A day after Blur announced that they won't be playing at the Big Day Out 2014 as planned, another artist has backed out on another Australian festival. Skrillex opted out of the Stereosonic shows less than a week before he was due to perform at the dance music festival.

Skrillex, real name Sonny Moore, also announced the bad news on Facebook. But unlike Blur's unceremonious exit that has blindsided even the promoters of BDO, Skrillex appeared truly apologetic when he cancelled his appearance.

"Due to unfortunate circumstances that are beyond my control, I won't be able to make the Dog Blood Stereosonic dates this year. For the record, I love the Stereosonic team and the One Love crew who puts on these events and this has nothing to do with them on their side," the 25-year-old American dubstep DJ wrote.

"I will be spending the rest of this year finishing my new music but will be coming back to do some SKRILLEX shows over New Year's Eve in a couple of weeks and will be spending more time in OZ in '14. Thanks and really looking forward to seeing you guys soon."

Boys Noize, whose real name is Alex Ridha and is Skrillex's partner in their side project Dog Blood, will still perform as scheduled across all five cities of the festival.

Miami-based duo GTA will be replacing Skrillex, and will be joining the lineup on the dance music fest's Hard arena.

Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren, Zedd, Nicki Romero, and Jamie Jones are among the artists that have signed up for the festival.

Stereosonic 2013 kicks off on November 30 and December 1, Saturday and Sunday, at the Sydney Showground in Sydney and at the Claremont Showground in Perth. It will also be at the Ellis Park in Adelaide on December 6 and 7 (Friday and Saturday), as well as in Royal Melbourne Showgrounds and at the RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane on December 7 and 8 (Saturday and Sunday).
