“Father of the Bride 3” will be happening, and Steve Martin is starring in it, he just doesn’t know it yet. The 68-year-old comedian debunked a new report that a sequel to the 1991 blockbuster.

According to Nikki Finke, Disney and Warner Bros are sorting out the rights to secure the second sequel of the film. Charles Shyer has signed on to pen and helm the third instalment.

Martin was also said to return to the film as George, the titular character.

The twist in the third film is that his son, the younger brother of the “bride,” is gay and will be getting married to a son of a Navy SEAL.

George is “thunderstruck and speechless” with his son’s homosexuality, so his wife Nina kicks him out of the house.

It can be remembered that his son was played by Kieran Culkin, who was just around 10 years old during the first movie.

“It’s a timely idea,” a source told Finke. “I told Charles I just hope it goes forward before gay stops trending...”

It sounds like a great idea, and if George stays as accepting as he was in the first two films, audiences will be treated to more heart-warming scenes in the upcoming movie.

However, it appears that the report is unfounded.

According to Martin, he isn’t aware that he has been approached to do the project.

“Father of the Bride” is a remake of the 1950 film of the same name, which starred Elizabeth Taylor and Spencer Tracy. Apart from Martin and Culkin, the later film also starred Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Diane Keaton, George Newbern, B.D. Wong and Martin Short.

The cast reprised their roles in the 1995 sequel “Father of the Bride Part II.”
