Steven Gerrard To Leave Liverpool For Major League Soccer This Summer
The day which all Liverpool FC fans dreaded is approaching fast. It is learnt that the club will soon put an end to the massive speculation going around by announcing that the Liverpool captain will leave Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires.
"Sad day for Liverpool and English football, I think it's the right decision, all things considered", tweeted his former Liverpool and England team mate Jamie Carragher.
Gerrard will be 35 when the season comes to an end. That Brendan Rodgers is using him sparingly with each passing month seems not to have gone down well with Gerrard. In mid-October it was rumored that the pair had fallen out. The manger ended that speculation by stating that he had presented Gerrard with a new contract in November which Gerrard has not accepted paving a way for him to move to the States.
Gerrard is wanted by the LA Galaxy and two other Major League Soccer teams. With Liverpool he had won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, two FA Cups, three League Cups, one Community Shield and two UEFA Super Cups. He is one of the greatest footballers to have played the Barclays Premier League. Unfortunately the league winner's medal has eluded him throughout his career. His best league finish was being the runners up for two seasons.
Gerrard had 114 caps for his national side. He made his international debut in 2000 and retired after his country exited the World Cup in 2014. He was made the captain in 2008. He led the Three Lions in the 2010 World Cup, 2012 Euro as well as the 2014 World Cup.
Last season was one of his best ever in a Liverpool shirt, whom he joined as a nine year old trainee. His passing accuracy of 86% and 13 assists were his best ever for the club and his 13 goals in the season was his second best effort in his career.
