Master filmmaker Steven Spielberg is all set to direct the movie adaption of "The BFG", the children's book written by Roald Dahl. DreamWorks bought the rights of the book to start the process of converting the book into a movie.

The movie will reportedly be a live-action one which is to be based on the journey of a Big Friendly Giant that becomes friends with a young orphan girl. The Hollywood Reporter reported that Quentin Blake illustrated Dahl's book which was published for the first time in 1982. DreamWorks acquired the rights in 2011 while Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy were scheduled to produce the movie adaptation.

Various directors including Chris Columbus and John Madden have been previously attached to the movie. However, the movie was apparently destined to fall into the laps of Spielberg. The screenplay has been written by Melissa Mathison who also wrote Spielberg's classic E.T. Michael Siegel is going to be the Executive Producer of the movie. Kennedy, who is presently in Lucasfilm, has been working on the latest installment of Star Wars. Dahl's book was previously adapted for British TV in 1989.

Spielberg's last movie "Lincoln" was released in 2012. While it might have been assumed that the director, who numerous awards for his films, would work less in future due to the long break since "Lincoln" Spielberg involved himself in several projects in March 2014 to prove the naysayers wrong. His future projects include the movie adaptation of "The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara." He is also involved in a project on Cold War, which is going to star Tom Hanks. Spielberg worked with Hanks in the widely celebrated movies like "Saving Private Ryan" and "Catch Me If You Can."

Spielberg won the Oscar in the Best Director category for several movies including "Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan." He was nominated for the Oscars for his last movie "Lincoln" as well. Spielberg has won 126 awards so far and is considered as one of the greatest filmmakers ever born.
