It is still a year away and yet the prospect of Sting, finally and officially under the WWE banner appearing at Wrestlemania 31, is an early Christmas present to wrestling aficionados. Is this finally our chance to see the mysterious persona grace the ring in our lifetime?

Ever since he signed with the company for a "non-wrestling role," the murmurs began to take the form of rumours. Those rumours escalated to real talk when the surprise of WWE 2k15 unveiled -- Sting as one of the playable character, with even merchandise of his action figure being sold by the outfit. Though these are steps towards the right direction, nobody will be fully satiated not until we see him pin someone down to the count.

According to the Wrestling Observer, that match is happening next year in WWE's biggest event -- Wrestlemania 31 -- in no less than his home turf, California.

SE Scoops confirmed this rumour that was discussed at length on its site:

"Speaking of merchandise, Sting items are being sold at WWE live events. Sting has a merchandise contract with WWE and as noted several times in the past, many expect him to work a match at next year's WrestleMania in Santa Clara, California in what could be his one and only WWE in-ring appearance ever."

Ever since he signed that contract, Sting was very involved and was visible in the promotion of his merchandise. The only question now is who will he fight? Let us examine the prospects:

Sting vs. Brock Lesnar

The Beast Incarnate versus Sting for the world heavyweight championship? The only question here is that how can Sting be viable to challenge Lesnar outright. Does he have to go through Royal Rumble to get there? And if he does get there, will he have enough staying power to get past the Beast? The prospects here are salivating. We have an established villainous champion in Lesnar who will be toppled by a legendary fighter. A one match can be expanded to several more, obviously, if Sting wears the belt.

Sting versus The Undertaker

One last hurrah before riding into the sunset? The Undertaker is coming off one of the most shocking losses at Wrestlemania 30, ending his 28-win streak at the event to Lesnar. Now, a one-time match on a pay per view event for two of the entertainment's biggest draws? Who will win? We do not care as long as we see the signature moves being exchanged.

Sting versus Stone Cold Steve Austin

3:16? Why not Sting, 3:16? Better yet, let Stone Cold and Sting team up to bring down the Beast Incarnate. Even just the two of them going one on one would be a great show. Austin is one of the greatest trash talkers of the outfit and let us see how he works his magic on a stern-faced Sting.

These three matches are all worthy of our patience. Let us just cross our fingers and wait a couple of months in hope of finally seeing Sting take it out against the WWE's best.
