At least 19 areas in the Philippines' Luzon region have been put in a state of calamity following the onslaught of rains and floods brought by a Storm Trami-intensified southwest monsoon.

As of early Wednesday morning, August 21, the 19 areas were:

1) Bataan

2) Calumpit, Bulacan

3) Hagonoy, Bulacan

4) Obando, Bulacan

5) Cavite

6) Gregorio del Pilar, Ilocos Sur

7) Narvacan, Ilocos Sur

8) Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur

9) Laguna

10) Malabon

11) Muntinlupa

12) Pampanga

13) Parañaque City

14) Dagupan City, Pangasinan

15) Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan

16) Pateros

17) San Mateo, Rizal

18) Tarlac City, Tarlac

19) Taytay, Rizal

State forecasting agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) offered Filipinos hope when it said on Wednesday morning that Trami (local name Maring) has finally begun moving and may ease out of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as early as Wednesday afternoon.

"Kahit kung bumagal. lalabas ito mamayang gabi (Even though it moves slow, it will get out tonight)," Glaiza Escullar, PAGASA forecaster, said in an interview on local dzBB radio, noting that Trami was forced to remain stationary in its place because of a weather system outside PAR. But it had since weakened, thus allowing Trami to move on towards its forecast trajectory which is Taiwan.

Still, Filipinos will feel the weather generally lifting up only until at least Thursday, Ms Escullar said.

PAGASA, as of 4 am local time, forecast Trami to be at 500 km northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 105 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

It expects Trami to move west-northwest at 15 kph.

Meanwhile, tired of Trami's presence in their country for the fourth consecutive day, Filipinos has taken to humouring their situation amid the prevailing rescue and relief operations.
